The Rise of Takeaways

This week we look into the rise of takeaways and deliveries in the UK.
Here at The Seashell, we have been operating as a traditional British fish & chip takeaway since we opened our doors just after the First World War. Over the years we of course expanded into a ninety-seat restaurant, but the famous tiled floor and Latin scribed walls in our takeaway are perhaps what we are most famous for. Our takeaway welcomes people from all walks of life; old, young, professionals, celebrities, families – everyone always has been, and always will be welcome with open arms.
More recently and more often than ever, people are opting to skip cooking at home and order in from the comfort of their own homes. The rise in apps such as Deliveroo and Just Eat have made it easier than ever for people to order their favourite meals from their favourite restaurants and takeaways. With just a couple of clicks from the palm of your hand, you can have your usual fish supper delivered directly to your door in as little as 30 minutes. Gone are the days sieving through paper menus in the draw and calling up your local takeaway to place an order! In today's age when customers are becoming more and more busy, convenience is key.
In the UK, 7.5 billion food deliveries were made last year, proving just how popular the sector has become. It is also estimated the sector could be worth a huge £15 billion by 2023! With a typical customer ordering 34 Takeaways over the course of a year, it has never been so important for takeaways to innovate with their offerings. Fish and chips continue to be a British staple, and what else screams comfort food more than your battered cod fillet and piping hot chips doused in salt and vinegar? Regulars at the takeaway will know that aside from our fish and chip offerings, we also continue to serve traditional British accents to our customers. After all, fish & chips are the third most popular takeaway dish in Britain. It is often thought that your average takeaway is especially unhealthy, however we beg to differ. You can catch up with a previous blog post on the nutritional information of fish and chips here.
If you are really organised, you can also pre-order grilled fish including salmon and seabass – perfect for the warmer weather we are currently enjoying here in the UK. In addition we also offer grilled salads from our takeaway, all washed down with an ice cold beer or soft drink! Throughout a time where the public are particularly health conscious, we are incredibly proud to serve and offer healthier alternatives to your average 'chippy'. There is also an option to switch our famous traditional batter for gluten free, panko and matzo meal options. All of our fish is freshly battered and prepared to order and we never compromise the quality of our products. We are also committed to serving fresh fish, meaning every cut of fish you see passed over the counter is never frozen and is freshly cut on site.
Do you use delivery apps? What are your favourite takeaway treats? We would love to hear!
